I originally started trialling MBAM (the $FREE version, with version series 1.x) on PCs/laptops using Win XP, and then Win 7, just as a suck-it-and-see exercise. It also can be used to "forensically" (that's my term for it) clean up PCs that have already been infected by malware/adware - and viruses. It protects you from sources of infection by malware/adware - stuff that can get past an AV checker because it does not behave like a virus. MBAM (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) is a malware detector/avoider/fixer, not an anti-virus checker. Refer also the discussion thread Malwarebytes is moving away from lifetime licenses In the discussion below, mentions that, from an old thread in DC Forum - here, a 20% discount coupon code (from March 2012) for Malwarebytes was still valid as at 30 October 2012: BM6-3S7-665. Non-commercial licences are valid indefinitely (lifetime).įor commercial use, there is an extended licence costing approx. The free and PRO/Premium versions are only available for non-commercial use. "Because your anti-virus alone is not enough" Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) $FREE and PRO/Premium note re McAfee Stinger.(Refer: How it compares to similar products) this relates to updates regarding the later version series v2.x on Vista Ultimate, Win8, 8.1 (64-bit) this was my final/last update for the version series v1.x on XP, Vista Ultimate and Win7HP (64-bit) for the version series v3.x on Win10-64 PRO for the version series v2.x on Vista Ultimate and Win8, 8.1 (64-bit) and PRO The next morning I plugged it in and they ran like greased lightning - the mouse and keyboard.- for the version series v1.x on XP, Vista Ultimate and Win7HP (64-bit) Keyed in raw text for 20 minutes then shut it down and slept the night away. Six nights ago I shut down the Notebook and unplugged everything took it to bed. Both the mouse and the keyboard are slow to respond to movements, so I figure it's not really the mouse, but there again. Typical example: Navigating through panes in Windows Explorer. I've RevoUninstalled Grisoft AVG, then MSE, then both, then re-installed them one by one for smooth running for a week or two, only to have the rodent go on strike again. I've dis-assembled the mouse at least half a dozen times looking for grit, cat hairs, sandwich crumbs etc. I am ashamed to say that on two occasions I have slammed the mouse down, hard, on the desktop in anger and frustration. The system seems to be running normally today without the strange delays and mouse effects.īobH wrote:The system seems to be running normally today without the strange delays and mouse effects.NTIA necessary, pal!įWIW I resolved a "sluggish mouse" problem a week ago.Įver since I fell into this Notebook, end of December 2010, I've been plagued by occasional sluggish mouse AND keyboard responses. I would appreciate suggestions for diagnostics and diagnostic tools. If there is something noxious afoot here (besides myself, of course), I don't know what else to do to find and fix it. I've reinstalled it and started a quick scan while typing this query. GONE AGAIN!ĭo I have some self-protective malware at work, or is this normal behavior for MWB? I don't recall it happening before. Today, out of curiosity, I looked to see if it were still on the laptop. Yesterday, the laptop starting performing slowly again so I looked for MWB to run another quick scan only to find that it was no longer installed on my computer. I also ran CCleaner on both the hard drive and the registry with no significant clean up warnings. Thinking that I must have uninstalled it at some point and failed to install it again, I downloaded and installed the free version and ran a quick scan which revealed 17 pieces of malware which I then quarantined. Eventually I thought to run MalWareBytes but was surprised that I could not find it amongst the installed apps. I could find nothing with avast! or with AdAware (paid editions) running full scans. There was no cable or wifi connection between the two devices, no bluetooth active, only the iPad wifi connection to the wireless router. The laptop started behaving strangely - taking far too long to open or close apps, slow screen transitions, mouse freezes and disappearances, generally like a rootkit was at work. Sunday evening I was fooling around with my iPad (can you say jailbreak?) which required that I use my Windows laptop.
